Our Dahlia Virus & Health Protocol
At Wild Vine Flower Company, we take extensive precautions to prevent the spread of dahlia diseases, including viruses. Maintaining clean, healthy stock is our top priority, and we follow stringent sanitation and pest control practices throughout every step of our growing and tuber-handling process.

OUR SANITATION PROCESS

-
We sanitize all cutting tools and equipment with a diluted bleach solution when harvesting, deadheading, and dividing tubers.
-
We adhere to a strict sanitation protocol to minimize any risk of cross-contamination.
-
We continuously educate ourselves by studying dahlia virus research, articles, and expert resources to improve our ability to identify potential issues.
TESTING & VIGILANCE
-
We have conducted field tests and sent samples to the Washington State University lab for virus testing. However, large-scale lab testing is costly, so we rely on a combination of formal education, research, and hands-on experience to identify and remove infected plants.
-
If a plant shows any signs of possible virus infection, we act immediately. Suspect plants are ruthlessly culled and disposed of in the trash—no exceptions. Protecting the health of our entire crop is far more important than saving any single plant or variety.
PEST CONTROL MEASURES
We adhere to a strict pest control regimen to minimize the presence of sap-sucking insects, which are common vectors of dahlia viruses.
We prioritize organic pest control methods and only use chemical treatments if absolutely necessary to protect the health of our plants.
UNDERSTANDING VIRUS RISK

Despite our best efforts, it is impossible to guarantee that any dahlia tuber is 100% virus-free. Some viruses remain asymptomatic, and because dahlias are grown in an outdoor environment, factors beyond our control can contribute to disease presence. Additionally, there is no definitive way to prove whether a virus was present in a tuber at the time of planting.

For these reasons, while we welcome concerns and conversations about plant health, we do not offer refunds or replacements for suspected virus issues. If you have questions, please reach out—we are happy to discuss our protocols and best practices with fellow dahlia enthusiasts.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to grow and share healthy, high-quality dahlias!
